Urban island Oostenburg
The urban island Oostenburg, a former shipyard, has transformed into a modern and vibrant city district by the water. You’ll find popular restaurants, hip coffee bars, and cultural hot spots right around the corner. Water sport enthusiasts can indulge in swimming, boating, or paddleboarding. Amsterdam’s historical city center is only five minutes away by tram or bike.

Cultural hot spot
A stone’s throw away from Huys&Werf you’ll find the industrial Werkspoorhal and the magnificent Van Gendthallen. These former factory halls are being transformed into cultural hubs, with a multitude of shops, ateliers, and creative start-ups. Quality coffee, a good restaurant or cozy café is never far away. Looking for adventure? Visit the bustling shopping street Czaar Peterstraat, the National Maritime Museum or Artis Zoo, which are only a short distance away.

Industrial history
Oostenburg and its two neighbouring islands have a fascinating industrial history. In 1661 the Dutch East Indies Company bought the land to establish shipyards and warehouses. At the end of the nineteenth century, the Werkspoorhal and the Van Gendthallen were built. You can still feel Oostenburg’s industrial past all around the island, though these monumental buildings will now host cultural initiatives, artist’s workspaces and start-ups.

The impressive historical Van Gendthallen provide a home to start-ups, art studios and cultural entrepreneurs.
Location
Oostenburg is centrally located near Amsterdam’s historical city center. Amsterdam Central Station can be reached within a few minutes by bike or tram. Schiphol Airport is fifteen minutes away by train. You can park your car in Parkeerhuis (Q-Park), a spacious (700 spots) car park. Oostenburg is a low-traffic area, which means its streets are reserved for local traffic and there’s a limited number of public parking spaces.
